Automated Sorting in Big Scale SIPTex III

Building the world's first automated sorting plant for post-consumer textiles on an industrial scale.

Period of the project : May 2019 – October 2022

Boer group is partner of a broad consortium consisting of Swedish fashion companies, research institutes, authorities and actors from different parts of the value chain for textiles.

The last step of the 3-stage project funded by Vinnova was the implementation phase.

SIPTex III aims to establish an industrial scale automated textile sorting facility with an annual sorting capacity > 20 000 tons of textile waste in Malmoe (South of Sweden).

The SIPTex sorting technology is based on visual (VIS) and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, enabling detection of both fiber types and colors (https://www.sysav.se/en/siptex#block1).

Besides the establishment of the sorting facility various other topics will be explored, e.g., quality assurance, chemical content or environmental impact.
